Today is Monday, January 19, 2024, and millions in Canada and the United States are enjoying a long weekend.   From my perspective, having been self-employed since 1997, most long weekends typically feel like a day when there is less phone calls or emails.  Often, they dont feel special.  But what I love about that “space” they creates is a little breather to set aside and contemplate life and business.

The reason I mention that is because of something that came up this week and I wanted to address it transparently.

The mindset of an entrepreneur is that we are hard wired to look for opportunity and risks.  It’s part of our DNA.

As a Canadian, I am seeing many dark changes coming in legislation as Justin Trudeau and his cabal of like-minded thinkers are introducing numerous bills in a last ditch effort to enshrine their policy and ideology footprint in the final hours of what appears to be their (finally) failed regime.

Many point out that the same is happening in the USA, but there are a couple key differences state-side compared to Canada — particularly considering the nature of this business.

  1. States are fairly autonomous.  Each state has much more capacity and political will to stand up against the various woke agendas.  There are pockets of leadership in various states that have been standing up for values I believe in.   Shout out to Gov. Ron DeSantis for one, but he is far from alone.   Point is, the states aren’t as beholden to a federal government, and there are in fact strong leaders pushing back hard and actually fighting against that here in Canada.
  2. The United States has an enshrined 1st and 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.  Those two amendments provide Americans guarantees for freedom of speech and freedom of the press.  As has been demonstrated over and over in Canada these past few years, the concept of rights — as defined by the Constitution Act and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms — are disposable at the will of a national tyrant.

If SnailMailPatriot.com is going to stand out as a corporate citizen, we need to do so from a position of strength.

We are working towards confirming that there is a long-term viability of this enterprise as one that first adds value to every day people, but also has the probability of financial success.

For my family and I, and this business, that means moving towards a future in the USA.  That means we positioning ourselves to act at scale for my fellow Canadians without the risk of the regime crushing us.  That means we are at arms length for our brothers and sisters in America and can stand up for you, too.

So, until further notice, we are still based in the lovely Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  We are a ferry ride to Washington state where I drop off all USPS mail and circle back same day.

In conclusion, as we enjoy the long weekend in our own ways, I thought I would share why there are so many US/Canada topics circulating and just say why we’re talking about these things.
